Drinking from boots, as the story goes, began with German soldiers passing around a boot full of beer before a battle during World War I. Then American soldiers were introduced to drinking from glass boots while serving in Germany during World War II. The popularity of the boot comes from the fact that if you dont drink it right, you'll wind up wearing your beer. So to some drinkers it becomes a contest to see who can defeat the boot.
